Something not working?

Email analog.lofi@gmail.com and I will answer. It is one person, so a reply can take a day or two. The answers below are the ones I give most often.

Manuals

Each manual is one page: what every control does, how the parts fit together, and a full parameter list at the end. They open in the browser and work offline once loaded.

  • DeAnalog Synth manual, version 1.9.5. The panel section by section, the sequencer and chord memory, the mod matrix, and an appendix of all 136 parameters with their ranges and defaults.
  • Vise manual, version 2.0.2. The detector, the feedforward-to-feedback blend, sidechain and oversampling, and its 23 starting points.

McManiak, DeAnalog Tape and SCALPEL do not have manuals yet. Email me if something in one of them is unclear and I will answer directly.

Requirements

The instrument, DeAnalog Synth, is macOS only.

  • macOS 13.7 or later. The installer refuses to run on anything older, because the plug-ins are built against that floor and will not load below it.
  • Apple Silicon or Intel. Every build is universal; both slices ship in the same package.
  • A host that loads Audio Units or VST3. The package installs both formats.

The four effects (McManiak, DeAnalog Tape, Vise and SCALPEL) also run on Windows 10 or later, as VST3. See the Windows section.

There is no AAX build, so none of the plug-ins appear in Pro Tools.

Install

  1. Download the .pkg from the link in your receipt and open it.
  2. Follow the installer. It asks for your administrator password, because the plug-ins go into the system plug-in folders, which every user on the Mac shares.
  3. Restart your music software. Hosts scan for new plug-ins at startup.

Where the installer puts things

  • Audio Unit: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/DeAnalog.component
  • VST3: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/DeAnalog.vst3

The installer is signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens it without a Gatekeeper warning. If macOS says the file is damaged, the download did not finish. Download it again and do not override the warning.

First launch

Logic Pro validates every new Audio Unit the first time it starts after an install. The scan runs on its own and takes a moment; DeAnalog appears under the DeAnalog manufacturer folder once it passes. If the instrument is not in the list, quit Logic and open it again, which runs the scan a second time.

Other hosts find the VST3 at the path above. If your host keeps its own plug-in list, rescan it.

An Audio Unit host shows a single entry in the plug-in's own preset menu, not all 153. That is deliberate. Use the browser inside the panel (click the display at the top), where the collections, search and favourites live.

Windows

McManiak, DeAnalog Tape, Vise and SCALPEL run on Windows as VST3. The instrument does not: DeAnalog Synth is macOS only.

There is no Audio Unit on Windows. Audio Units are a macOS format, so a Windows host will only ever show the VST3.

Install

  1. Download the .zip from the link in your receipt.
  2. Right-click the zip, choose Properties, tick Unblock, then OK. Windows marks anything downloaded from the internet, and the mark follows the files out of the zip if you skip this.
  3. Unzip it, and copy the .vst3 into C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3, the standard folder every VST3 host scans. Windows asks for an administrator password, because that folder is shared by all users.
  4. Restart your music software, or tell it to rescan its plug-in folders.

The Windows builds are not signed

There is no code-signing certificate on the Windows side, so Windows has no publisher name to show you and may warn you about the file, and some antivirus software objects to unsigned plug-ins on principle. Nothing is wrong with the download; I have not bought a Windows certificate. If you would rather not run unsigned software, ask for a refund and I will not argue.

The macOS packages are different: those are signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple.

Where your files live

  • Preferences: ~/Library/Analog Productions/DeAnalog/preferences.xml. This holds the faceplate you chose, the window size and your starred presets.
  • Saved MIDI mapping: ~/Library/Analog Productions/DeAnalog/midimap-default.xml, written when you save a mapping as your default.
  • Your patches: ~/Documents/DeAnalog/Patches, as .deanalog files. Patches you save elsewhere stay where you put them.

A patch is a single file, so it can be emailed or kept with a project. If the patch used a waveform you dropped in, that waveform travels inside the file.

Uninstall

On macOS:

  1. Delete /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/DeAnalog.component and /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/DeAnalog.vst3. The Finder asks for your administrator password.
  2. To remove your settings as well, delete the folder ~/Library/Analog Productions/DeAnalog.
  3. Your patches in ~/Documents/DeAnalog/Patches are ordinary files. Deleting the plug-in leaves them alone; delete the folder yourself if you want them gone.

The installer also leaves a receipt. If you want a completely clean slate before reinstalling, run these two lines in Terminal:

sudo pkgutil --forget com.analogproductions.danalog.au
sudo pkgutil --forget com.analogproductions.danalog.vst3

On Windows, delete the effect's .vst3 from C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3.

Reporting a bug

Email me and include as much of this as you can. It is usually the difference between a guess and a fix.

  • The plug-in version, from About / Legal notices in the panel's menu.
  • Your macOS version and which Mac (Apple Silicon or Intel).
  • The host and its version, and which format you loaded: AU or VST3.
  • What you did, what you expected, and what happened instead.
  • If it only happens on one sound, attach the patch file.

A crash is most useful with the macOS crash report. Open Console, choose Crash Reports, and send the newest entry that names DeAnalog or your host.

Purchases and refunds

Everything sold here goes through Lemon Squeezy, which takes the payment and sends the receipt and the download link. I never see your card details.

For a refund, email me with the order number from that receipt and tell me what went wrong. If a plug-in will not run on your Mac, say which macOS version you are on. That one is usually the 13.7 floor above, and it is a refund either way.
